More Words

Laekin has been saying Bible for a while, but now it is quite clear...she says "Bye-Bo"  and it is precious!!  We ask her to say it a lot.  She also yells bye-bye very loud when someone is leaving.  She gets so excited when Mike gets home from work, and then will smack her lips at him for a kiss.  She loves phones.  So in the morning, as soon as she sees Daddy's phone she yells "bo" for phone and wants to go and give it to him.  Laekin will sign thank you and please most of the time, but sometimes she says "sha shu" for thank you and "ye peas" for yes, please.  Such sweet sounds to fill our home with!!

Laekin loves her mommy and she won't be interested in sitting on my lap, but if Lucy or Brandt is, she comes marching over and puts up her arms for me to pick her up too.  I was holding Lucy on my lap, I pulled up Laekin and set her next to me on the couch and she took her little hand and started pushing on Lucy saying "moo" for move.  She had her eyebrows furrowed and she meant business.  Mike sat their laughing with his face in his shirt, and I somehow kept it together to tell her to say sorry to sissy and to not push.

Lucy's 7

Lucy had her 7th birthday.  It's hard to believe that she can be 7.  She was so excited for her birthday.  Daddy took the day off...had a big breakfast, played, went out for lunch and got ready for the big party.  We had 30 people over, and Lucy's 3 best friends spent the night.  Lucy requested Grandma's lasagna, my stuffed shells, salad and homemade rolls.  She also wanted a key lime pie, an apple pie, a cherry pie, ice cream and cupcakes.  Thankfully, Grammy and Grandma helped out and each made a pie.  The cupcakes we decorated to look like an ice cream cone.  Lucy and Brandt helped decorate them to look like ice cream they liked.  It turned out really cute.  We had a pinata, which you could say is not a good idea when there are so many kids of different ages.  It got a little wild!  Her 3 friends spent the night, so we made beds in the living room, they watched Mary Poppins, and fell asleep pretty fast.  The next morning we had a tea party in the dining room with my china.  I made cinnamon rolls, fruit salad and blueberry tea.  The girls dressed up, well some of them, and had fun drinking tea out of fancy cups.  We then painted toenails and then it was time for their mama's to get them.  Lucy had a great time!  It was fun to watch her open presents because she was so grateful for each one.  It's amazing to see how each year she becomes more of a lady.  I am so thankful for another year with our beautiful princess.  I am so grateful to be her teacher and have her home as my helper.  She helps fold clothes, make beds, take care of Laekin and Brandt, and even helps in the kitchen sometimes.  Lucy you are a joy and your smile truly reflects the love of Jesus in it!  Love you sweet girl.

Sympathy or maybe not...

Brandt got in trouble the other day and had to stand in the corner.  He was crying so hard while standing in the corner.  Laekin walked up next to him, put her head against the wall like she was in the corner and started to fake cry.  Brandt thought she was being sympathetic, but I'm not too sure.  It was funny!

Brandt

Brandt has a workbook that we do for school everyday.  He has learned how to write the whole alphabet and all their sounds.  We read a book the other day and he was able to sound out 2 letter words.  It's very exciting that he is beginning to see how letters go together to form words.  We are now working on writing out numbers.  He does very well and sticks to his work until he is finished, which is about 4 pages.  He will get distracted and start drawing at the top of his page or something, but he always finishes his work before getting up.  He loves to play with Daddy's remote control "hallacopter."  He loves to eat "tummus" and I am finding there aren't too many more words that he can't say correctly, which is sad.  He's growing up!  Brandt also LOVEs short-sleeve shirts.  I think everyday he asks if it will be warm enough to wear short-sleeve.  He tells me he likes to be cold.  He can be rough and tough and he can be very tenderhearted and cry easily.  He's a sweet boy who has a lot of love to give!  I love you, Buddy!

Laekin

Laekin is changing so much and getting so big.  She is saying more words, like Bible, book, Lucy, Buddy (comes out Bubba), and yup.  When we rock before sleep she will look at me and nod her head up and down, which means, sing the B-I-B-L-E.  She will look at the camera and say "cheese" but you better catch it because she will move on to something else.  She loves to rub her dirty hands through her hair after she finishes eating.  She loves to throw things away.  She will blow in and out of her nose, which means I need to blow my nose.  So she will blow and then go throw the tissue away.  If she sees little pieces of paper on the floor, we will hear her throwing them away.  She loves to color, and has finally stopped eating crayons and just colors with them.  She will take a piece of paper and crayon and lay on her tummy and scribble.  It's cute!  She loves to sit on the kitchen counter while I am chopping vegetables or fruit.  She says "ahhh" with her mouth wide open whenever she wants a bite of anything.  When I tell the kids to go get their shoes on, she will go get hers and bring them to me, and her coat too.  She follows commands so well, and is at such a fun age.

The other day, she was throwing a fit, so Mike said "do you need to go stand in the corner?"  She nodded her head yes and walked over and stood in the corner.  It was so funny!  She has had to spend some time in the corner for biting or hitting, but she does a great job of waiting there until I say she is done.  Then she will give hugs to whomever she hurt.

Laekin will also hold her hands up in the air with her eyes big and her mouth open, like I don't know, when you ask her where something is.  Then she will go and look for them.  Yesterday, she was playing in Brandt's room, then came down and her socks were off.  I asked her where they were.  She put those chubby little hands up in the air and looked at me like where did they go.  She left the room and a little while later she came running to me with her socks and was so proud of herself that she found them.  I was pretty amazed because most times when she goes to look for something, mid-way up the stairs she forgets and heads back down.  She is such a joy!!  I love you, Laekin!!

Walking

Laekin is what I consider a walker now.  She took her first steps on November 3rd, but she didn't really start walking until last weekend, December 1st.  It's still funny to see her walk up to me.  She is so proud of herself, and wants to walk every where.  Yesterday, at Hobby Lobby I let her out of the cart to look at ornaments and she was all smiles...such freedom!  Then she let Brandt and Lucy hold her hands to walk her to the checkout...adorable!!  Yes, those are my children...aren't they the cutest.  She loves putting on shoes, but she always has.  She will take a shoe, doesn't matter whose it is, and will hold it in her right hand and lift her left foot and try to put it on.

Laekin isn't really talking much just mama, dada, and then a bunch of sounds.  She does her signing and then grunts for everything else.  She is a snugly little girl and loves her mama.  She will push Michael away sometimes when he holds his hands out to take her from me.  It's quite funny!  She lets you know that she wants a sip or bite of something  you have by just opening her mouth and waiting.  She's like a little bird.  She will eat crayons if you leave her with them.  She's my first crayon eater.  She loves to climb up in little chairs to sit, take every book out of her book shelf, get her toothbrush or whosever she can grab from the drawer and walk around brushing her teeth.  Sometimes she will come find you with a toothbrush in one hand and toothpaste in the other.  If you mention brushing teeth or walk by the bathroom, she will look at you and show you her teeth, which means, I want to brush my teeth.  I guess these are all reasons why she doesn't talk much because we all know exactly what she is wanting.

Our days

Laekin is 14 months old.  She still isn't walking by herself, but she sure is proud when we hold her hands and help her walk.  Laekin is our comic relief.  Oh the faces that she makes at us...and she knows she is funny because she will laugh after making us laugh.  She will pretend to drink coffee and even follow it up with a mmm or an ahhh.  She will snuggle with me so nice and if Michael tries to take her away for his own snuggle time, she will bury her head in my shoulder, squeeze tight with one arm, and push him away with her chubby little hand.  It's pretty cute!  She also will lift my shirt on my back if I am lying on my tummy and blow raspberries.  She doesn't like when Lucy or Brandt try to make her do what she doesn't like.  She has a mind of her own and she will let you know if you are not cooperating with it.  She loves to crawl up in the little chairs or her rocking chair.  She will eat crayons if you don't watch her carefully while we are coloring....never had a crayon eater before, or maybe I just never had so many distractions that they didn't get a chance.  Who knows!  Laekin loves bath time, loves being outside, loves watching Lucy and Brandt and loves being held!!!  Oh my, the things I can do with 1 hand...perhaps that is why she is not walking yet, but I don't care.  She's my baby.  Last night I told Laekin I was sorry because I feel like she is getting the leftovers of me.  It makes me sad, but it's reality, and maybe that's why I will cook with 1 hand, carry laundry upstairs on my hip, hold you while I am on the toilet, and look awful when we go out b/c there wasn't time for a shower.... just so I can hold my girl more.  I love you so much, Laekin!!

My sweet boy is really turning into a boy.  He will make a sandwich into a gun, find a rock and stick wherever we go and insist we bring it home, listen partially and is full of constant energy.  He is also becoming that brother who likes to annoy his sister...Laekin that is.  He will stand right in front of her when she is trying to walk, pull her down the stairs when she wants to play upstairs, and try to hold her when she doesn't want to be held.  I don't even think he does it to bother her because he will say "mama, I just love her so much."  I've even heard him telling her that he loves her when they were playing on the floor and no one else was around.  It was quite sweet. Brandt started wearing his underwear to bed in October.  He stayed dry long enough that we decided to give it a try, and a month later he is still doing great.  Yea!!!  He said "now I'm a big boy."  He is also learning his letters.  He's been working hard on learning them because he wants to know how to read.  He will write me letters like Lucy does and say "mama, what does it say," so I will make something up and he is quite proud of himself.  We are quite proud of you too, Brandt!  You haven't had a Sunday School teacher yet that hasn't been in love with you :)  I can't blame them, my heart is overflowing with love for you.

Lucy is doing great in school.  She works diligently most of the time.  Reading is her favorite.  She doesn't really like writing stories in English, but she is starting to like is a little more each time.  She is pretty good at it when she can just write and not follow rules.  She also took another Young Rembrandt's art class this semester.  She enjoyed the 1hr a week drawing and learning new skills.  It's amazing to see what she can make it an hour.  My Mom has given Lucy a few piano lessons, but we need to get it tuned before she has anymore.  The other day she told me that "she just knows she is going to be really good at playing the piano."  She's got the confidence down. When Lucy is done with school, she is excited to run off and play with Brandt.  They will build forts, play outside, play house, color, fight, be best friends, and then start again!  Lucy loves Jesus!!  No question about that...today she saw a shirt at the store and it had stars on in and she said "mama, I think you will love this shirt because it is full of the stars that God made."  She makes up songs about His love for us and then performs it.  She even loves to tell Brandt about Jesus.  It's amazing to see how she has grown spiritually in a 6 year old body in 1 year since asking Christ into her life.  Sweet Lucy, Jesus has big plans for you!!  You make my heart sing... I love you so much!

Each day is full and my list (mostly mentally these days, and I forget 1/2 of it until I sit down at night) is never completed.  I pray about how I can do better tomorrow each night as I am lying with the kids after prayer or driving to workout. A lot of days I feel like I failed, but I am trying.  The Holy Spirit gently comforts me and guides me!  Lucy, Brandt and Laekin... I will fail you a lot.  I don't mean to, but I am a sinner only saved by grace.  I love being your Mommy, teacher and friend.  There is no other place that I would want to be except home with you.  These days are precious to me and they fly by too quickly.  I pray you always feel the importance you have to Daddy and me!  We are so thankful for each of you.
