Grocery List

The other day when I was making out my grocery list, Lucy asked if she could have a piece of paper from my tablet that I make my list on.  I said sure, for what, and she said she needed to make a list too.  So I found her list on the table as follows:

Brokly (broccoli)
Lemin (lemon)
Tomado (tomato)
Cikin (chicken)

First, I love this list because she sounded everything out herself instead of asking me to spell it for her.  Second, I love this list because it is all healthy food.  Way to go Lucy!!

Things I want to remember

Lucy can be found at the dining room table a lot throughout the day coloring.  One day when Brandt was napping, Lucy and I were drawing pictures.  I had drawn a bear and a parrot.  So she then took my pictures and drew a nest with an egg under the parrot and then asked me how baby bears are born.  I told her how they are born and she kind of looked at me for a second and then started drawing a picture.  She drew the back-end of a bear with the tale up and a baby bear coming out.  It's a picture that we definitely have to keep.

Brandt is such a happy go-lucky little boy.  He walks around the house humming a lot.  He just loves to sing!  I know I say this a lot, but I just love listening to his little voice and I often hear "wook at that, Mommy", "whatcha doin, Mommy" and "Mommy, you play choo-choos with me."  If he is on the swing he says "push me too high," because I would give him big pushes and ask him if it was too high.  He is a very cautious little boy.  He needs to make sure that it's okay and then he will really get into it.  I hope he will always be that way.  He comes over to my tummy a lot and pats it and says "baby sissy in mommy's tummy."  Sometimes he will lift his shirt and pat his own tummy and say "baby in Brandt's tummy too."

We call Brandt different names all of the time, like silly boy, tankers, buddy, etc... He used to call himself "Bent" so Mike will tease him and call him Bent.  He will then say, "no, I'm not Bent I'm Brandt."  One day he said "I'm not tankers, I'm Brandty-poo."  He's just a funny boy!

Lucy's 5th Birthday

Our sweet girl is now a big 5 year old.  I think she started talking about what kind of birthday cake she wanted about 10 months before her birthday.  This year she chose Hello Kitty, and when I asked her what flavor she wanted it to be she decided quite quickly that she wanted blueberry.  I began to look up blueberry cake recipes, but all I could find was a white cake with blueberries in it and I didn't think that would work well with the buttercream frosting.  So I made up my own blueberry cake recipe, and it was a hit!!  So Lucy's Hello Kitty cake was all ready for her on her birthday morning when she got up. She did her sweet little giggle and was so excited about it that it was well worth the fuss.  She got to pick out her birthday breakfast, so she chose cinnamon rolls, pears, mango and plums.  I added eggs for some protein.  Mike took the day off, so after breakfast and playing for a while, we all got dressed and went to pick out a pinata for her party.  We found the cutest ice cream cone pinata at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon, woohoo!  All the pinata's I found at other stores were so expensive just to be beaten on and thrown away.  Lucy then picked chick-fil-a for her birthday lunch.  We ran into her friend there, so she got to play in the play area for a while with her.  We then stopped to get some balloons and ice cream for her party (malted chocolate was her choice... the man at Braum's thought that was so funny for a 5 year old to pick out that flavor and was very concerned she wouldn't like it, which she ended up loving and made Mike very happy).  We then went home, put Brandt down for a nap and started getting everything ready for our family coming over for the party.  Lucy is a girl who knows what she wants... she wanted to make pizza, have a pinata and play pin the bow on Hello Kitty.  So Mike printed off a huge Hello Kitty picture that Lucy colored and we taped it to the fence outside.  I must add that the Lord blessed us with weather that was absolutely perfect.  It was like the only day for weeks that you didn't get blown over when you went outside.  The kids were able to make their pizza's, play outside while they baked, and we were able to play all of the games outside in a beautiful evening.  The kids loved the pinata, but the adults had more fun with pin the bow on Hello Kitty....we figured out you could see through the blindfold so all the kids were cheating so it was pretty easy for them.  It was a great day celebrating Lucy!  She is such a blessing to our family.  We love you so much sweet Lucy!!

Help Daddy

Brandt always wants to help Daddy.  When Mike had to fix the fence he had to walk back to the turnpike trail to get to the back of the fence, so Brandt said "I go help Daddy fix fence."  So he put on his shoes and walked with Daddy to fix it.  When Mike was fixing the Wii, Brandt told me "I go help Daddy."  I said, okay and Brandt got down on his hands and knees right by Mike and said about 6 times "Daddy I help you."  When Mike was not acknowledging him, he turned around and looked at me and said "Mommy, Daddy don't hear me."

Singing

Brandt loves to sing songs.  At night he wants to sing the BIBLE, It's Bubbling, ABCDEFG Song (not just the ABC song), and This Little Light of Mine.  I love to hear his little voice sing.  Sometimes he will want you to sing with him and sometimes he puts his little hand up for stop and says, no Brandt sing.  So it was exciting when Brandt made it through the ABC's all by himself, and then he surprised us last week when he started counting and he made it to 20.  He used to get stuck after 13.  So way to go Brandt!  Daddy, Mommy and Sissy are proud of you.

Funny things they say

Miss Lucy has been such a big helper for me while I have been sick.  There were mornings where Mike would get their breakfast ready and then have to leave so Lucy would help Brandt, clean him up and get him down from his highchair.  She would say, "come on Brandt, let's go upstairs and play" and he would reply "okay sissy," all while I was trying hard to get myself up from bed and move to the couch or up to Lucy's bed to watch them play.  Every now and then one of them would start crying and have to come down for kisses, but overall they did great.  My Mom did come down and help us for several weeks, so that was such a huge blessing!  I knew my kids were being loved and cared for, and Mike didn't have to do everything when he came home from work.  It was an incredibly hard 9 weeks of all day sickness, and now I just have headaches and nausea at about 8pm every night.

Lucy said the funniest thing while we were at lunch one Sunday after church.  Mike was trying to help Brandt finish his meal and he wouldn't take a bite, so Lucy said, "Brandt, don't you like Daddy."  He said NO in his teasing voice, by the way, he is such a mini-mike in that he likes to tease.  So Lucy said, well do you love daddy and Brandt said no again.  So Lucy went through all of our names and Brandt of course said no.  So then she asked him finally, "do you love Jesus."  Brandt said NOOO.  So Lucy says "well, I guess your going to hell when you die then."  We laughed so hard because she said it so matter-of-fact.  Mike and I just kept laughing about it the rest of that day and it still makes me smile.  I had asked Lucy if she talked about Hell in Sunday school.  She said they hadn't, and I only remember having one deep conversation about Hell with her when she was asking questions about salvation.  She's a funny girl.

Brandt has such a sweet little voice and he is just a parrot by repeating everything we say.  I love when you ask him a question because he says "yes" in just the cutest way.  He loves to make you laugh, so if you look at him during dinner he will raise his eyebrows, make a funny face or turn his head and look at you from the corner of his eye.  I could seriously eat him up because he is so stinking sweet.  I love that he will play restaurant with Lucy or dress up and then he will go all boy and throw balls and get rough.  We do have to tell him to be gentle with Lucy, so it should be interesting when the baby comes.  Another phrase we hear all of the time is "no, I try."  He wants to do everything himself, so I will say okay, but be careful.  So we were on a walk yesterday and he was jumping over cracks and walking around goose poo, and he would say "be careful, mommy, be careful."  I also hear over and over throughout the day... "what ya doing, mommy" and "where we going, mommy."  He makes me smile.

Baby #3

SURPRISE!!  We are going to have another baby.  My due date is September 2nd.  Lucy told everyone at Mike's birthday party.  She said "my mommy has a baby in her tummy."  Brandt says "mommy has baby in tubby."    Lucy hopes it's a baby sister.  She had even predicted twins, but thankfully only one baby was found in the ultrasound.
