Boo-Boo

Brandt got his first big boo-boo. He climbed up on to one of Lucy's chairs in her room and fell off of it forward into the table and hit his forehead on the edge. I was cleaning up books in the room, so I turned around when he started screaming. I picked him up and held him tight, then pulled him back to look at his head and I saw a big gash and it was black and blue and starting to bleed. So I yelled for Michael as I ran down the stairs and I started to cry. Lucy saw me and she started to cry and said "why are you crying, Mommy." So, obviously I am not ready for this boys stuff. We iced it, which wasn't a pretty picture because I had to pin Brandt's head down while Michael held the ice on. Thankfully, one of my cousin's in town is in residency, so I called her and she came over and looked at Brandt's head and bandaged it up. No stitches... so Praise the Lord! Michael said it is okay if he has scares because look at him, and I guess he is super handsome even with all his scares from falls and dogs bites on his face.

He was watching a baby Einstein movie and pointing at the animals...

All bandaged up...

Tea Party

While in Kansas last month, Grammy had a tea party for Lucy. Grammy invited friends from town to come out for tea and cookies. So Grammy and Lucy made cookies and then Daddy, Lucy and I decorated them. Grammy got out some of her prettiest cups and saucers from the china cabinet and when the guests arrived, Lucy gave each of them a hat to wear. The hats are from Mike's Grandma Officer that she wore "back in the day". So here are a few pictures of our fun time!

Grammy and Lucy with their aprons on hard at work.

Ready for the guests...

Lucy picked the pink hat, of course.

If you want to have tea and cookies, you had to wear a hat... a guy's got to do what a guy's got to do to get a cookie! Plus, Daddy left him home with the ladies, so what do you expect!

Brandt Lipstick

Two years ago, Lucy got in my purse while she was supposed to be napping and got my lipstick and made a horrible mess of it... oh what a mess! Well, the other day, Lucy yells to me that Brandt is in my purse. I go over to him, clean up the mess and put my purse away. I go back to work making dinner and I see him pass through the kitchen clutching something in his hand. He is always carrying something, but thankfully, my curiosity made me check to see what he had... oh yes, it was the lipstick, same color and everything. I said, oh no buddy, you won't be using that today and took it away. Of course, he threw a fit, but Praise the Lord he did not become Brandt Lipstick, for my sanity anyway.

Animal Sounds

We have been having fun doing animal sounds with Brandt. Our favorite one is to ask him what a pig says. He snorts and it is so cute... his nose wrinkles a little and he makes the sound from the back of his throat. Lucy cheers him on like such a great big sister. He also says neigh, neigh... quack (more like cuck)... moo, moo...and a very cute cockle doodle doo that you can recognize only if you ask him what a rooster says.

My nephew left his light saber here and Brandt found it. So Brandt walks around with it making this sound like the boys do when they are using them. Its pretty funny that he knows he is a boy, and this is what boys do with light sabers. We've also found that Brandt has quite the temper. He's already thrown himself down on the floor very upset when he gets something taken away. I can't remember how old Lucy was when she did that, but I don't think it was this young. Needless to say, he doesn't get his way, but it is a pathetic cry and usually ends with him coming and crawling in my lap.

Sweet prayer and new words

Lucy prayed at lunch today she said "Dear Jesus, thank you for this food, thank you that Brandt can say so many words, thank you that Mommy can stay home with us when Daddy goes to work. In Jesus' name, Amen." If my heart was so full, I can only imagine how Jesus felt, since she was talking to Him.

A few of the words that Brandt is saying... nigh, nigh, purple, cookie (it comes out caca), baby (he will pick up any stuff animal or Lucy's dolls and give it a hug and say "baby" and then throw it down), and poo-poo (if we ask him if he is poopie, he says poo-poo).

We had a tea party after lunch. Mike's great-aunt gave us a little tea set and some small candles, so he had a candlelit tea party. Brandt enjoyed drinking from the tea cup and having a caca. Lucy was quite excited herself. It's the little things that I take the time to do that they get so excited about.

Things I love

1. I love that Brandt lifts his shoulders up to his cheeks and gives me big smiles.
2. I love that Lucy makes me little notes and writes "Lucy to Mommy" most of the time without spaces.
3. I love that Brandt follows me around the house, even to the bathroom, and at times brings a book and turns around for me to pick him up on my lap on the toilet. Makes me laugh.
4. I love that Brandt and Lucy can play together already.
5. I know someday I will love that Brandt hangs on my leg or keeps tapping my leg when I am trying to make dinner all while he is crying.
6. I love that Brandt cries when Lucy cries
7. I love that Lucy consoles Brandt when he is hurt.
8. I love that Lucy loves to learn and that her little mind is always going
9. I love that Brandt now goes to the door and looks out the window when I say Daddy is home, go to the door. Tonight, Michael just stood outside for minute listening to him squeal with excitement.
10. I love that Brandt snuggles with me for a few minutes in the morning.

Just for you Mom :)

Lucy's new thing right now is playing pbskids.org on the computer. It's fun to watch her little hand maneuver the mouse. We've also started a chore chart in attempt at helping more around the house. Her duties include brushing her teeth (morning and night), making her bed (which at first was very upsetting to her that she couldn't make it perfectly and now she has finally settled on doing her best), working on memorizing verses (we usually do this at lunch and I chose John 3:16 to be the verse to start with), setting the table at dinner, cleaning up toys, cleaning up crayons, and putting clothes in basket at end of day. So far, she is excited about this, so hopefully the newness won't wear off. I'm still trying to decide on a reward system for completing her chores.

Brandt is up to walking around the house carrying things, especially books, and he'll hold the book out to you. He'll just keep walking around the circle. Lucy will run around, saying she is exercising, and Brandt will chase after her. He is also trying to say so many new words like cracker, bubbles and Papa. He also amuses us all so much with the nodding of his head to questions. He just nods away. I love that he is agreement with us because before we know it, it will be no. He loves to be chased, but he gets so excited he can't seem to keep his balance and just keeps falling over. It's pretty funny to watch. He giggles and gives out little screams when you catch him and tickle him. This is such a fun age.

I made black bean burgers last night for dinner, but I put them in little heart dishes to cook in the over because they fall apart easily. Well, Lucy asked what was for dinner and I said "meatless meatloaf because I made it out of beans, so I guess it is beanloaf". How gross does that sound, but it was really good. Well, when Michael walked in the door, Lucy yelled to him, Mommy made beanloaf. Now doesn't that make you run to the table, or maybe run out the door. I love that she eats anything... she liked the name and mentioned the "beanloaf" several more times during dinner. I just laughed every time and she would just look at me like what is so funny. Brandt liked it too, but he liked the brownies afterwards even better... you never saw a baby eat a brownie so fast.

Now those are stories only a Grandma could love :)
